+ DO I NEED A REFERRAL TO SEE A MASSAGE THERAPIST?

No, massage therapy is direct access, meaning you do not need a doctor’s referral to schedule an appointment. Some private health insurance companies do require a doctor’s referral in order to provide reimbursement. As every plan is different it is best to call your insurance provider and ask if a doctor’s referral is needed.

+ IS MASSAGE THERAPY COVERED BY INSURANCE?

Most extended health care plans cover some or all of the costs associated with massage therapy, usually up to a maximum amount. It’s best to call your provider and clarify your coverage.

+ DOES OHIP COVER ANY OF THE TREATMENTS?

RCRC is a private clinic, which means we are not able to bill OHIP for massage therapy services.

+ WHAT TYPES OF MASSAGE DO YOU OFFER?

We offer a variety of techniques here at RCRC:

  • Swedish Massage: general massage techniques (includes myofascial release techniques)
  • Deep Tissue Massage: addresses the deeper layers of the muscle and connective tissue
  • Trigger Point Therapy: specific pressure is applied to the area of pain in a muscle, which often can refer pain to other areas of the body

+ DO I HAVE TO TAKE OFF MY CLOTHES?

No, you do not have to undress if you choose not to. Massage techniques can be performed over the clothes or sheets and you will still receive an effective and therapeutic massage. It is always important to undress to your level of comfort for each treatment. Massage therapist are trained to always drape only the area they are working on, if draping makes you feel uncomfortable at any time during the treatment please let the massage therapist know.

+ IS THERE ANY PAIN ASSOCIATED WITH TREATMENT?

It is not uncommon for certain areas to cause discomfort during or after treatment since massage helps release lactic acid stored in tight muscles. You may feel pain or discomfort after a massage anywhere from 24-48 hours although each individual is different and you may not feel any discomfort at all. If you feel uncomfortable at any time during treatment please let the massage therapist know.

+ HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET A MASSAGE?

Based on your individual needs and treatment plan the RMT will go over the amount of treatments that would benefit you the most. One massage a month is the most recommended to optimize your overall health.
